More

Around 2010, mining and resource companies realized the need for safety improvements in their aviation operations. Flying their people from and to remote sites posed a major safety threat that needed to be addressed.

These corporations approached the Flight Safety Foundation to collectively design an aviation safety standard that would assist them in the risk-based management of their aviation activities.

Today, this Basic Aviation Risk Standard is suited to any organization that uses aircraft operators to provide contracted aviation support for their operations, particularly within remote and challenging environments.

The reach of the BARS Program has since been extended beyond traditional aircraft and helicopters to also cover uncrewed aviation.

BARS Member Organizations today include companies from the mining and resource sector, energy and powerline providers, governmental departments, insurers, and humanitarian organizations.

BARS Members require companies which wish to enter into or extend contracts with them to comply with the BAR Standard. Ongoing compliance is assessed by approved BARS audit companies with accredited BARS auditors.

With hundreds of BARS registered aircraft operators around the world, our members have a considerable choice of service providers capable of operating to our high standards.
