Archived Publications
Before the debut of AeroSafety World in 2006, Flight Safety Foundation published seven monthly or bi-monthly bulletins devoted to different aviation safety themes. Although the earliest — going back as far as 1953 — are mostly of historical interest, the archived issues available here, from 1988 until they were superseded by ASW, are a rich source for research on many aviation safety topics. For your convenience, they are full-text searchable.
The publications are:
Accident Prevention: Descriptions of significant accidents and incidents, derived from official accident investigation reports. Longer and more detailed than synopses, shorter than the reports themselves, they offer an accessible account that includes facts, findings of causal factors and the investigating authority’s recommendations.
Airport Operations: Air traffic control, wildlife control, aircraft rescue and fire fighting, and much more.
Aviation Mechanics Bulletin: Dedicated to maintenance issues and accounts of maintenance-related accidents.
Cabin Crew Safety: The view of safety in the back of the plane.
Flight Safety Digest: Formerly the closest in scope to AeroSafety World, the Digest covered one major subject in a feature story, along with departments such as statistics and reports received in the Jerry Lederer Library.
Helicopter Safety: Helicopter operations present a unique set of safety issues; this bulletin covered this vital aviation sector.
Human Factors & Aviation Medicine: For better or worse, the human element is at the center of aviation safety.
