The BARS Difference

Saving Lives
- Provide a safe work environment and keep your people from harm by making your aviation operations safer with BARS. Accident and incident numbers have significantly dropped for BARS Member Organizations’ contracted aviation operations since the inception of the program.
- Make informed risk assessments and decisions on which contractors you choose by using the world’s leading contracted aviation safety industry standard and our database of BARS audit reports on aircraft and RPAS operators.
- Take part in the large safety community of BARS Members and shape the future of contracted aviation safety in our Technical Advisory Committee meetings that discuss and decide upon additions and amendments to our Standards.
- Use BARS as your aviation safety network to stay up to date and connected with industry peers.
Protecting Investment
- Flying operations according to the BAR Standard have industry leading safety levels. This means less risk for your equipment to get damaged or destroyed and thus more return on your investment.
- Lower insurance premiums: Many insurers acknowledge BARS membership as a contributing factor to your safety management.
- Lose fewer working days: less accidents mean more operational hours.
- Make your company visible as a leader in flight safety: BARS Members can use the BARS logo to distinguish themselves as a company committed to go above and beyond the regulatory requirements.
- Attract the best people and retain them: Everyone wants to work in the safest possible environment. BARS membership makes your company more attractive for highly skilled and safety-oriented personnel in an increasingly tight labor market.

Simplifying Aviation Management
- Simplify your risk assessment: Access the latest audit reports of 230+ worldwide aircraft and RPAS operators in our database BARSoft. No need to travel on-site to audit operators or to excessively vet them.
- Get exclusive access to BARS training programs, e.g. Managing Contracted Aviation Risk Training, Helicopter External Load Operations for Ground Personnel Training.
- Receive the latest exclusive incident and accident information directly to your inbox: Our data team analyses BARS audit reports and global incident/accident data from Flight Safety Foundation’s Aviation Safety Network to compile comprehensive reports which are exclusively made available to BARS Members.
- Flight Safety Foundation membership is included in all BARS memberships! It gives you discounts to seminars, access to information on key safety issues and initiatives as well as a wide range of opportunities to connect and network with international industry peers, for instance at Flight Safety Foundation events.

Levels of BARS membership

Benefactors
Benefactors are large organizations with extensive use of outsourced aviation services. In addition to their support for the BARS Program, they also provide support for the broader activities of the Flight Safety Foundation internationally. They have unrestricted access to BARSoft and BARS audit reports.

Tier 1
Tier 1 members have mining, energy or other facilities extending across more than one location and typically utilize more than three aircraft operators for contracted aviation services. They have unrestricted access to BARSoft and BARS audit reports.

Tier 2
Tier 2 members have mining, energy or other facilities at one location and typically utilize less than three aircraft operators for contracted aviation support. Access to BARSoft and BARS audit reports is limited.

Oil and Gas Providers
Many oil and gas providers (OGP) have their own aviation safety departments. OGP organizations can supplement their aviation risk oversight by accessing BARS audit reports. OGP organizations may also join as Tier 1 members.

Affiliates
BARS Affiliates are organizations that hold an indirect interest in the conduct and safety of contracted aviation operations. They have access to finding data analysis reports and safety alerts as well as observer status in BARS Technical Advisory Meetings but do not get access to aircraft operator profiles and audit reports.
