Alexandria, VA, February 9, 2006 — More than 100 aviation industry representatives convened in New Delhi, India last week for a workshop on aviation safety. The Flight Safety Foundation sent its team of volunteer experts to present the FSF Approach and Landing Accident Reduction (ALAR) Tool Kit and discuss its use with the attendees. Mr. Satendra Singh, the Director General of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation India (DGCA), gave the introduction and stayed for the entire workshop.
This was the 22nd ALAR Tool Kit workshop that the Flight Safety Foundation has conducted all around the world. The tool kit is a consolidation of the data, products, findings, conclusions and recommendations of 9 years of work by over 300 international aviation safety experts. The workshops get this vital information to the people who can put it to use. Attendees of these workshops include operators, pilots, regulators, air traffic management personnel, airport officials and other aviation professionals.
“This was our first Workshop in this region and it was a great success,” commented Jim Burin, Director of Technical Programs at the FSF. “It was sponsored by COSCAP–South Asia (Cooperative Development of Operational Safety and Continuing Airworthiness) and hosted by the DGCA India. There were representatives from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the Maldives and from all facets of the aviation community. I’m confident that by using the ALAR Tool Kit this region will be able to reduce the rate of approach and landing accidents.”
The Flight Safety Foundation will host at least one more workshop, in December 2006 in Tokyo, and is in talks for a possible workshop over the summer in another location in Asia.
