ICAO Director to Follow Retiring CEO Stuart Matthews
Alexandria, VA, June 22, 2006 — The Flight Safety Foundation (FSF) today announced that William Voss, former International Civil Aviation Organization Director of Air Navigation, will replace Stuart Matthews as President and CEO. After 13 years of successful leadership of the Foundation, Matthews will retire effective October 1.
“Bill’s diverse operational and management experience working with government and industry will complement the progress our organization has seen under the guidance of Stuart,” said FSF Chairman Ed Stimpson. “Stuart deserves tremendous credit for solidly positioning this organization for growth and advancing its impeccable international reputation.”
Mr. Voss held his position at ICAO since 2004, where he oversaw development of major international safety initiatives. Prior to going to ICAO, Mr. Voss spent 23 years at the Federal Aviation Administration, focusing on air traffic management and control. He holds an air transport pilot license, is a certified flight and ground instructor, a certified airframe and power plant mechanic and is an FAA control tower operator. He holds a Bachelor in Science in Aviation Maintenance and Management and a Masters in Public Administration.
At ICAO and the FAA, Mr. Voss was responsible for the coordination of multiple programs, managing staffs that numbered in the hundreds, directing multi-million dollar budgets. He has developed global safety plans and led reforms to expedite the process by which critical needs are identified and addressed.
“When I was asked to consider the role of CEO at the Flight Safety Foundation I was intrigued due to its reputation,” stated Mr. Voss. “I’ve had the chance to work with some of the staff in the past and I knew that I couldn’t turn down this opportunity.”
