Singapore, November 1, 2011 — Together with conference host, the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), the Flight Safety Foundation (FSF) welcomed all the attendees, exhibitors and sponsors to its 64th Annual International Air Safety Seminar (IASS) today. Mr Lui Tuck Yew, Minister for Transport and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs joined executive members of FSF to open the three-day seminar held at the Mandarin Orchard Singapore.
More than 300 international aviation experts and professionals have gathered in Singapore to attend the event. Over the next three days, aviation safety experts will present compelling studies and lead panel discussions on challenging and emerging topics across different aspects of aviation safety.

This key event in the aviation safety calender is a major platform for all stakeholders to keep abreast of and address pertinent safety trends and issues. This year’s seminar will no doubt further contribute to the aviation community’s shared goal of building a strong safety culture and maintaining the highest level of safety.” said Yap Ong Heng, Director-General, CAAS.

Program Highlights
The 64th annual IASS programme will feature papers and discussions that examine some of the global aviation safety challenges today such as fatigue risk management, runway safety and pilot training.
A key highlight of this year’s IASS is the keynote address delivered by Captain Richard de Crespigny from Qantas Airways. The pilot in command of Qantas flight QF32 recounted his personal experience in the harrowing episode, sharing how his team fought to beat the odds and landed the distressed A380 aircraft in Singapore in November 2010. His address also underscored the valuable lessons learnt from this extraordinary experience.
Another highlight of this year’s programme will be the Leaders Forum. Led by William R. Voss, FSF President and CEO, this panel discussion session will include senior management of aviation authorities and airlines, who will share views on topical safety issues and challenges.
FSF will also be giving out five Aviation Safety awards on the opening day of the seminar. The awards are given to individuals, teams and organizations for their outstanding contributions towards risk reduction in aviation safety.
