Alexandria, VA, March 8, 2006 — The Flight Safety Foundation announced today that Jay Donoghue will join the staff as Director of Publications starting April 3. Mr. Donoghue served most recently as Editorial Director of Air Transport World magazine.
“Jay is coming on board at a very exciting time,” commented Stuart Matthews, FSF president and CEO. “The Foundation is expanding both its efforts and its reach. We have big plans in our Publications Department, and I can’t think of a better person to lead the team. I’m very pleased that he accepted our offer to join us.”
Mr. Donoghue has spent a significant amount of time in the world of aviation journalism, as both a writer and an editor, but he got his start in the industry as a U.S. Army helicopter pilot in the 1960s. Since then, he has earned commercial pilot and flight instructor certificates and has acquired more than 4,000 hours in the cockpits of airplanes and helicopters.
His career in aviation journalism started at Aviation Daily and led him to Air Transport World, where he launched Airport Equipment and Technology, a quarterly publication, and A2A, an electronic publication.
“When Stuart Matthews called to ask if I could recommend anybody to be Flight Safety Foundation’s Director of Publications, I listened to just a short description of the job before volunteering for the job,” Mr. Donoghue said. “The opportunity to join the highly respected Flight Safety Foundation and its fine team of journalists and production specialists to spread the safety word was too tempting to let go by.”
