Washington, DC, May 3, 2006 — NTSB Acting Chairman Mark Rosenker, who was recently nominated by President Bush to be the Chairman, was the guest speaker at the Flight Safety Foundation May Newsmaker Breakfast.
Rosenker spoke to a group of reporters about his vision for the future of the NTSB as well as his recognition of the achievements in the past, emphasizing his belief in the safety of aviation transportation. He added that he plans to push for Federal budget approval to hire more investigators, including specialists in composites, structure and aircraft electronics.
After the Acting Chairman’s comments, he opened the floor to questions from the attendees. Many questions focused on his long-term plans at the agency and his thoughts about future safety innovations. He also answered questions about the very high number of fatalities caused by accidents in automobiles and what could be done to reduce that number.
A Newsmaker Breakfast is an opportunity for the media to interact with notables in the aviation industry in an informal, on-the-record format. Sponsored by the Flight Safety Foundation, speakers range from government officials, to corporate leaders to members of Congress.
