TCAS Resolution Advisory Safety Study

Eurocontrol is looking for pilots to take a brief survey

The European Air Traffic Management Network has a Top 5 Safety Priorities list that includes instances in which traffic-alert and collision avoidance system (TCAS) resolution advisories (RAs) are not followed. A coordinated RA generation and response is an essential safety barrier to midair collisions, but some events reported to Eurocontrol include a failure to follow the RA correctly or failure to follow the RA at all.

As part of a study of the top five priorities, Eurocontrol is asking pilots to complete an anonymous survey to better understand pilot decision making while dealing with a TCAS RA. This survey is not confined to pilots who operate within European airspace.

Pilots will be asked to recall a recent event in which they followed or did not follow a TCAS RA, and the factors that were part of the context or that shaped their decision making.
