NBC’s Tom Costello to Kick Off BASS 2025

ALEXANDRIA, Virginia — NBC News Senior Correspondent Tom Costello, an Emmy award-winning journalist who is the network’s lead aviation and space correspondent, will open Flight Safety Foundation’s 70th Business Aviation Safety Summit (BASS), which is scheduled for May 6–7, in Charlotte, North Carolina, U.S.

Costello, a 20-year veteran of NBC whose high-profile assignments have included the recent midair collision between a regional jet and a U.S. Army helicopter over the Potomac River in Washington and the Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 MAX-9 door plug investigation, will address reporting responsibly on aviation and will offer insights into the editorial process and what goes into covering accidents and other events.

Joining Costello in the keynote presentation will be Capt. John Cox, a former airline pilot and long-time industry consultant who serves as NBC’s aviation analyst.
