Kenya has been granted a Category 1 rating under the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA’s) International Aviation Safety Assessment program, signifying that the country is in compliance with international aviation safety standards.
The FAA announced the safety rating on Monday, Feb. 27.
Kenya had not previously been rated by the FAA, which evaluates the civil aviation authorities of all nations with air carriers that fly to the United States, those that have applied to fly to U.S. airports and those that participate in code-sharing agreements with U.S. airlines. With the Category 1 rating, Kenyan air carriers may apply to establish service to and from the United States.
A Category 1 rating signifies that a country complies with standards and recommended practices set forth by the International Civil Aviation Organization; a Category 2 rating signifies that the country falls short of those standards….
