ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Flight Safety Foundation released the following statement Monday on the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA’s) new rules regulating the routine, non-recreational use of small (less than 55 lb/25 kg) unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), or drones. The new rules, formally known as U.S. Federal Aviation Regulations Part 107, went into effect on Monday, Aug. 29.
“The small drone rules that went into effect today represent a first step in safely integrating UAS into the National Airspace System while allowing commercial and civil UAS operators the flexibility they need to realize the economic potential and other benefits that technological innovation offers. Striking the right balance between innovation and safety will be critical as UAS technology develops.”
