DENVER — Michael Graham, director of flight operations safety, security and standardization at Textron Aviation and a nominee to the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), was honored Friday with Flight Safety Foundation’s Business Aviation Meritorious Service Award.
“We are recognizing Mike for his tireless advocacy in advancing safety in business aviation,†FSF President and CEO Dr. Hassan Shahidi said at the presentation ceremony during the final day of the Foundation’s 64th Business Aviation Safety Summit, being held in Denver.
Graham joined Textron’s Cessna unit 21 years ago and worked as a product demonstration pilot and a production test pilot before being named manager of flight safety. In that position, he developed unique methodologies for mitigating risk and improving safety.
He also introduced the aviation safety action program (ASAP) into Textron Aviation flight operations. The program dramatically increased safety reporting and led to numerous changes in operating procedures.
He has led the National Business Aviation Association’s Single-Pilot Safety Working Group and is a member of the General Aviation Information Analysis Team of the Aviation Safety Information Analysis and Sharing (ASIAS) program.
Before joining Textron, Graham worked for Boeing/McDonnell Douglas. He began his aviation career as a U.S. Navy aviator.
He was nominated to the NTSB in January to succeed board member Earl F. Weener, whose term had expired.
Graham holds an airline transport pilot certificate and has accumulated 10,000 flight hours.
