FSF Recognizes Excellence in Business Aviation Safety with Award at BASS

May 13, 2015

Weston, Florida, May 13, 2015 – At its 60th annual Business Aviation Safety Summit in Weston, Florida, the Flight Safety Foundation today recognizes Alan W. Dean with the Business Aviation Meritorious Service Award for his steadfast commitment and dedication as chief of safety for  Boeing Executive Flight Operations.

“Each year, it is the privilege of the Flight Safety Foundation to present its Business Aviation Meritorious Service Award during BASS. This year, I have the honor of presenting it to Dean. His leadership has cultivated a safety management system that is truly industry-leading,†stated Jon L. Beatty, President and CEO of the FSF. “Every individual in the 100-person executive flight operations has benefitted from Dean’s inspired leadership. His guidance mitigates risk through all facets of the department’s operations.â€

Dean came to Boeing in an effort to build a leading Safety Management System (SMS) based on best practices†He first defined a safety policy that built the foundation of a just culture.  Dean brought reporting from a level of next to none, to over 70 reports annually. This brings important information forward, improves operations, and keeps with the tenets of SMS, turning a safety program from reactive to proactive.

This award is presented annually at the Business Aviation Safety Summit (BASS) by FSF in order to recognize an individual or company for exceptional ability to improve the safety of business aviation.
