Alexandria, VA, August 23, 2012 — The Flight Safety Foundation announced today the creation of its Maintenance Advisory Committee (MAC), demonstrating an increased commitment to the study of safety in the aviation maintenance community.
Representing the Foundation on the MAC as the Executive Secretary, Deputy Technical Director Rudy Quevedo hailed the move. “It’s time for the Foundation to expand its safety work to include the challenges facing the maintenance community. The MAC is made up of experts in aviation maintenance and I expect their work to drive some of the Foundation’s well-respected research projects in new directions.”
The MAC will develop a list of potential projects to examine. The list could include topics such as training requirements with the advancements of technology, fatigue and the possible creation of a fatigue risk management program targeted to maintenance, or maintenance safety on the runway/taxiway.
“These are just ideas to get the conversation started with the new MAC. I’m very excited to see what topics the group will develop and the direction they go in,” noted Mr. Quevedo.
The initial membership of the Maintenance Advisory Committee is as follows: Joseph Barclay, President – CEO, Inflight Warning Systems, Inc.; William Huntley, Manager Quality and Safety, AAR Corp.; Phil Randall, FAASTeam National Airworthiness Lead; Joseph Nester, Director, Corporate Safety, US Airways; Brad Brugger, International Coordinator, Safety of Flight and Compliance; Transport Workers Union of America; The Hon. John Goglia, NTSB (ret.); William Rankin, Lead – Human Factors, Maintenance and Engineering, The Boeing Company; Edward MacASkill, Compliance Manager, Northeast Division, American Airlines; Bill Spidle, Manager, Safety and Regulatory Training, Southwest Airlines; Terry Von Thaden, Illumnia/University of Illinois; Tom Burt, Executive Vice President, Duncan Aviation; and Dale Forton, President, PAMA.
