Alexandria, VA, October 6, 2015 – Flight Safety Foundation today released this statement in support of the FAA’s new compliance philosophy, which was discussed in detail today at FSF’s Newsmaker Breakfast by guest speaker FAA Administrator Michael Huerta.
“The FAA’s compliance philosophy is an important step forward for aviation safety. FSF has long called for the increased use of data from normal operations to identify precursors to risk and the FAA’s new compliance philosophy will do a great deal to enhance the trust and cooperation that is central to any successful effort to share data,” said Jon Beatty, president and CEO of the Foundation. “The administrator explained how this philosophy will encourage open transfer of information between the industry and regulators and allow the regulators to focus their efforts and work more efficiently.”
“FSF also is pleased that the administrator emphasized that this philosophy is not a ‘get out of jail free’ card. Negligence, intentionally risky behavior and falsification, among others, would still lead to disciplinary actions,” Beatty continued. “The FAA’s Compliance Philosophy should be the model for aviation regulators around the world and in many other industries as well.”
