Task Force Leads Approach and Landing Accident Prevention Workshop in Azerbaijan
Baku, Azerbaijan, September 13, 2007 — More than 30 aviation industry representatives met in Baku, Azerbaijan, September 12 and 13 for a workshop on aviation safety. The Flight Safety Foundation (FSF) team of volunteer experts presented the FSF Approach and Landing Accident Reduction (ALAR) Tool Kit and discussed its use with the attendees. This was the 25th ALAR Tool Kit workshop that the Foundation has conducted worldwide.
Among the attendees were Sabir Hasanov, Director, State Civil Aviation Administration of Azerbaijan; Valery Sultanov, Director, Azaeronaviagtion; Andrie Kurierov, Head of ATC Center, Kazairnavigation, Kazahhstan; Sabir Gasanov, Director, CAA of Azerbaijan; and other leaders in the nation’s the air traffic control organization and civil aviation authority.
The tool kit consolidates the data, products, findings, conclusions and recommendations of 10 years of work by 300 international aviation safety experts whose mission was to eradicate one of the leading causes of fatal aviation accidents. The workshops bring this vital information to the people who can put it to use — operators, pilots, regulators, air traffic management personnel, airport officials and other aviation professionals.
The speakers who conducted the workshop included Bob Vandel, Executive Vice President, FSF; John Long of the Air Line Pilots Association; Michel Tremaud of Airbus; Vladimir Poltavets, Head of Laboratory, Flight Scientific Research Institute, Russia; Vladimir Kofman, Flight Safety Foundation International (Moscow) and recipient of FSF’s President’s Citation in 2006; Kyle Olsen, U.S. Federal Aviation Administration and recipient of an FSF President’s Citation in 2001; Wolfgang Rossbert, Boeing; and Christian Cardoso, International Federation of Air Line Pilots’ Associations.
The next workshop is scheduled for December 5, 2007 in Dhaka, Bangladesh and will be sponsored by COSCAP South Asia and hosted by Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
