Seminar Takes a Detailed Look at Aviation Safety for Business Aviation in Asia

November 9, 2010, Alexandria, VA — Focusing on a rapidly growing business aviation market in Asia, the first ever Business Aviation Safety Seminar (BASS) – Asia commenced in Singapore, presented by the Flight Safety Foundation in partnership with fellow organizers the International Business Aviation Council (IBAC), the Asian Business Aviation Association (AsBAA), the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) and the Singapore Aviation Academy (SAA). Endorsed by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), BASS-Asia is specifically targeted at the Asian business and regulatory community.

“There is such a need to bring together aviation safety professionals to exchange the information as well as to bring forward the latest safety knowledge,” commented FSF President and CEO, William R. Voss. “This is an opportunity for the leading safety groups to do their part to help guide a nascent industry with existing tools and best practices. With a number of local directors general planning to attend, it is also a great chance to develop a consistent framework for business aviation oversight.”

Donald Spruston, the Director General of the IBAC summarized BASS objectives by stating that “Business aviation is growing very quickly in Asia. The Safety Seminar is an ideal opportunity for the relatively new and fast growing industry to exchange ideas on safety best practices and to learn from each other.”

“Safety is the business aviation community’s highest priority, and with this event, our industry is re-affirming its commitment to safety best practices, not just in the U.S., but around the world,” said NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen. “We are pleased to be a partner in this event, and we’re delighted to see that it has been strongly welcomed by the
industry.”

“Given the promising outlook for business aviation in Asia, BASS serves as a timely forum for governments, international organizations and industry players to strategise on the way ahead. Through this convergence, we can move forward to work on the regulatory and operational best practices that will propel the business aviation in Asia ahead,” commented Mr Yap Ong Heng, Director-General of the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore.

More than 120 individuals are expected to attend this seminar which will start with two workshops on November 9. These workshops will begin with one-day workshops for the International Standard for Business Aircraft Operations (IS-BAO) as well as an Approach and Landing Accident Reduction Workshop.

Various sessions focusing on regulation, safety management system, safety tools, managed development and a look at criminal corporate liability and aviation will follow in the subsequent days of the 3-day seminar.
