U.S. President Joe Biden said today he will nominate former Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) official Michael G. Whitaker to be administrator of the FAA.
Whitaker, who was deputy administrator from 2013 until 2016, currently is the chief operating officer of Supernal, a Hyundai Motor Group company that is designing an electric advanced air mobility vehicle. He also is a member of Flight Safety Foundation’s Board of Governors.
The FAA’s top job has been filled by a series of temporary administrators since the resignation of Steve Dickson in March 2022.
In the announcement of his upcoming nomination, the White House praised Whitaker’s accomplishments as deputy administrator, saying that he “brought industry and government together to drive the successful transition of the nation’s air traffic control system from radar to a satellite-enabled surveillance technology (ADS-B).”
