Both members of an Airbus A320 flight crew dozed off for nearly half an hour during a domestic flight in Indonesia, missing several radio calls from air traffic control and pilots of other aircraft before the pilot-in-command (PIC) awakened and realized the airplane “was not in the correct flight path,” according to a report by Indonesian investigators.
The Komite Nasional Keselamatan Trasportasi (KNKT) said, in a preliminary report on the Jan. 25 serious incident, that the Batik Air Indonesia pilots had reported for duty at 0125 local time. As they prepared for the flight, the second-in-command (SIC) told the PIC that he “did not have proper rest” because he had spent the previous two days helping care for his month-old twins while packing the family’s belongings and moving to a new house.
