The International Air Transport Association (IATA) recorded 51 airline accidents in 2025 and an overall accident rate of 1.32 per million flights — numbers that showed small improvements over those of the previous year but were slightly higher than the five-year average for 2021–2025.
IATA counted eight fatal accidents in 2025, compared with seven in 2024 and an average of six per year from 2021–2025.
The data were presented in IATA’s 2025 Annual Safety Report, released March 9. Overall, the report said, the numbers demonstrated “a solid year of safety performance.”
More specifically, the report said that 2025’s 51 accidents compared to 54 accidents in 2024 and an average of 44 accidents for the five years from 2021–2025.
