While measures of the airline industry’s economic health have recovered to pre-pandemic levels in much of the world, the pace of the recovery in the Asia and Pacific and Africa regions is more challenging, according to data from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
“Our latest analysis … reveals clear signs of a strong global recovery in air traffic, characterized by increasing airline confidence and a range of regional air connectivity and air travel facilitation improvements,” ICAO said in early June, adding that the pace of recovery this year is expected to be stronger than in 2021.
The organization cited a 65 percent increase in the number of air passengers carried from January to April of this year, compared with the same period in 2021, along with a 32 percent increase in airline seat capacity.
