Billy Nolen, currently the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA’s) associate administrator for aviation safety, will become acting FAA administrator later this week after Administrator Steve Dickson leaves the post.
Nolen has been an associate administrator since January and previously was vice president for safety, security and quality for WestJet Airlines in Canada. He also has held safety leadership posts at Qantas Airways, Airlines for America and American Airlines, where he began his career as a pilot with type ratings in the Boeing 757 and 767and McDonnell Douglas MD-80.
“Billy Nolen has extensive expertise in aviation and a deep understanding of the vital role the FAA plays in ensuring the safety of the traveling public,” U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said in announcing the change on Saturday.
