A preliminary report on the June 12 crash of an Air India Boeing 787-8 says the fuel cutoff switches transitioned from RUN to CUTOFF seconds after the airplane lifted off from Ahmedabad, India, for a flight to London Gatwick Airport. The crash killed all but one of the 242 passengers and crew, plus 19 people on the ground, and destroyed the 787.
The report, issued July 12 by the Indian Air Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), drew no conclusions but said that, on the cockpit voice recording, “one of the pilots is heard asking the other why did he cutoff. The other pilot responded that he did not do so.”
