The pilots of an Air France Boeing 777, surprised by the airplane’s greater-than-expected left bank and its deviation from the flight path, briefly applied simultaneous opposite control inputs during a go-around at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, according to the French Bureau d’Enquêtes et d’Analyses (BEA).
The BEA said Wednesday that its investigation of the April 5 serious incident was continuing.
The agency said in a preliminary statement that the incident occurred when the airplane, carrying 177 passengers and 15 crewmembers, was on an instrument landing system (ILS) approach to Runway 26L, established on the localizer and glide slope. Weather conditions included wind from 230 degrees at 8 kt, visibility of 3,000 m (2 mi) and a ceiling of 300 ft.
