Publication of this report marked the first time that ICAO and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) have issued their annual safety reports simultaneously, showing a harmonized 2012 accident rate of 2.4 accidents per million flights for all commercial aircraft types weighing 5,700 kg (12,566 lb) or more. That figure represents a decrease from 3.6 accidents per million flights in 2011.
