The world’s most thorough, publicly available analysis of commercial aviation accident statistics is likely the IATA Safety Report, published in the second quarter of each year by the International Air Transport Association. The most recent edition, IATA Safety Report 2015, was released in April and is featured in DataLink, beginning on p. 45 in this issue of AeroSafety World.
This year, in addition to the usual in-depth analysis and categorization of commercial jet and turboprop accidents, the report contains an intriguing yet unsettling foreword from Dieter Reisinger of Austrian Airlines, who served as chairman of the IATA Accident Classification Task Force (ACTF) in 2015. The ACTF was created by the IATA Operations Committee “to analyze accidents, identify contributing factors, determine trends and areas of concern relating to operational safety, and develop prevention strategies.”
