Airports would benefit from the implementation of a knowledge management (KM) program to create, share and leverage essential operational knowledge, according to a report from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine.
The report defined KM as “a deliberate and systematic process to create, capture, share and leverage the essential knowledge needed for success.” In such a process, knowledge is viewed as a strategic asset, and a plan is in place to identify and mitigate risks associated with the loss of knowledge and to fill knowledge gaps to meet current and future needs, the report said.
