There has been a great deal of interest recently in building resilience into the fiber and soul of our aviation organizations. We know that resilience will allow us to recover from setbacks and be flexible and more productive in our day-to-day operations. Resilience begins with listening — or, more precisely, with wholistic listening. The concept of wholistic listening is captured in the single phrase “Listen with your eyes and listen with your whole self, and you will both be heard.” Respectful wholistic listening seeks to achieve far more than simply hearing; it seeks to develop understanding, respect, and trust.
