The number of helicopter accidents in 39 selected countries declined in 2019 to 236, down 5 percent from the 249 accidents recorded the previous year, according to preliminary data from the International Helicopter Safety Foundation (IHSF).
Fatal accidents recorded a 26 percent decline to 42 in 2019, down from 57 fatal accidents in 2018, the IHSF (formerly the International Helicopter Safety Team) said in a February report.
The report identified positive trends over time, citing declines in both fatal and nonfatal accidents (Table 1).1
