After months of expressing concern that the activation of new frequencies for wireless broadband might interfere with aircraft electronics, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said today that it now believes the expanded 5G C-Band network “will safely coexist” with aviation.
The agency said its work with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and wireless companies has made progress toward the safe implementation of the 5G expansion. That work will continue, the FAA said.
“The FAA believes the expansion of 5G and aviation will safely coexist,” the FAA said, adding that it was issuing two airworthiness directives (ADs) designed to provide a framework for the safe expansion of 5G and to avoid potential interference with aviation safety equipment. “We are confident with ongoing collaboration, we will reach this shared goal.”
