The commercial airline industry will need nearly 2.4 million new pilots, maintenance technicians, and cabin crewmembers between this year and 2044, according to new estimates from Boeing.
The 2025 Pilot and Technician Outlook, released July 22, said that many of the new employees will be needed to replace current employees who retire or leave their jobs for other reasons while others will meet needs generated by “emerging markets and changes in fleet mix.”
Boeng’s 20-year forecast says the industry will need 660,000 new pilots, 710,000 new maintenance technicians, and 1 million new cabin crewmembers in that time span.
