The European aviation industry is being threatened by a fragmented approach to the COVID-19 pandemic, Jan Palmér, president of the European Regions Airline Association (ERA) and CEO of Xfly, said Thursday during Flight Safety Foundation’s 8th annual Safety Forum.
The two-day forum, which concluded Thursday, was organized by the Foundation, Eurocontrol and ERA and was conducted virtually because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Forum sessions examined not only the effects of the pandemic on the aviation industry but also airport safety and the new Global Action Plan for the Prevention of Runway Excursions (GAPPRE). Part 1 of GAPPRE, released in January, presented about 100 recommendations aimed at preventing runway excursions; Part 2, which will include enhanced guidance material, is expected to be issued within several weeks.
