In the next few weeks, we will release a list of the Foundation’s top safety issues, which will be based on accident data from Aviation Safety Network and other sources. Over the course of the next year, we plan to delve deeply into each issue and look at the underlying contributing factors. We will be tracking the issues on our website and featuring longer articles in the digital pages of AeroSafety World. From a broader perspective, the Foundation intends the list of safety issues to inform the work of its advisory committees and, to a certain extent, the topics that will be covered at the Foundation’s summits and seminars.
We also will be developing a list of emerging concerns, specifically, areas for which there is not a lot of publicly available accident data but which nonetheless are growing safety issues. For example, unmanned aircraft system (UAS) operations and integration into civilian airspace likely would fall into this category.
