Five fatal accidents and 17 hull losses1 were recorded involving jets in worldwide commercial aviation in 2018, marking a turnaround from the historically low number of fatal accidents and hull losses in 2017, Airbus said in its annual analysis of commercial aviation accidents (Figure 1).2
Comparable Airbus data for 2017 included one fatal accident and six hull losses.
The fatal accident rate increased from 0.03 per 1 million flight cycles in 2017 to 0.14 per 1 million cycles in 2018, the report said, and the hull loss rate increased from 0.17 per million flight cycles in 2017 to 0.49 per million cycles in 2018.
