An international team of aviation safety experts today recommended a multi-pronged effort to prevent runway excursions, which in recent years have accounted for nearly one-quarter of all accidents worldwide.
The group’s 93 recommendations make up Part 1 of the Global Action Plan for the Prevention of Runway Excursions (GAPPRE). The recommendations are aimed at all stakeholders in the aviation community, including aircraft and airport operators, air navigation service providers, aircraft manufacturers, regulators and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
GAPPRE’s Part 2, which will provide guidance material for implementing the recommendations and outline best practices, is expected to be released in March.
