Three fatal accidents involving the Western-built worldwide commercial jet fleet1 killed 138 passengers and crewmembers — and a fourth crash killed one person on the ground — in 2016, one year after no onboard fatalities were reported, according to data from Boeing Commercial Airplanes.
The three accidents in 2016 with onboard fatalities were the March 19 crash of a flydubai Boeing 737-800 during an attempted go-around at Rostov-on-Don, Russia, which killed all 62 passengers and crew; the Nov. 28 crash of a LaMia BAE 146-RJ185, which hit the ground in Medellín, Colombia, after fuel was exhausted during the descent, killing all 71 occupants; and the Dec. 20 crash of an Aerosucre 727-200 during initial climb after departure from Puerto Carreño, Colombia, killing five of the six occupants.
