Foundation to Recognize RTCA/EUROCAE and International Aviation Law Leader from Singapore with Awards

Jun 22, 2023
Awards will be presented at Networking and Awards Dinner on July 11.

ALEXANDRIA, Virginia — International aviation standards-setting organizations RTCA and EUROCAE and Tan Siew Huay, a leader in the international aviation law community, will be honored for their contributions to the aviation industry at Flight Safety Foundation’s Networking and Awards Dinner on July 11 at the National Press Club in Washington.

Ms. Tan, who is the Director (Legal) at the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, a recognized leader in international aviation law and the first woman elected to chair the International Civil Aviation Organization’s Legal Committee, will receive the Foundation’s Gloria Heath Trophy, which recognizes a woman for notable achievement in civil aviation. She is being recognized for her leadership on the international stage and for all she has done behind the scenes to advance aviation law and the industry.

“International aviation is underpinned by a complex web of laws, treaties and regulations,” said Foundation President and CEO Dr. Hassan Shahidi. “Siew Huay has been a driving force behind many of the advances in international air law that the industry has seen over the past two decades.”

RTCA and EUROCAE were selected to receive the Richard Teller Crane Founder’s Award for their accomplishments in establishing the standards on which many of the technical advances in aviation have been built. The award recognizes an organization for sustained corporate leadership through lasting contributions to civil aviation.
“Developing standards that are used across global aviation is a process that requires a great deal of collaboration and consensus building,” said Shahidi. “RTCA and EUROCAE have demonstrated for decades how critical aviation standards can be advanced through collaboration.”

The Gloria Heath Trophy is named after Gloria Heath, an aviator, safety expert and search-and-rescue pioneer who was the only woman among the group of innovators who launched Flight Safety Foundation more than 75 years ago. The Richard Teller Crane Founder’s Award is named in honor of a Foundation founder and entrepreneur who played a critical leadership role in the organization’s early days.

The Foundation’s annual Networking and Awards Dinner is scheduled for July 11 at the National Press Club in Washington. The evening will begin with a networking and cocktail reception at 6 p.m. followed by dinner and the awards ceremony. More details on the event can be found on the Foundation’s website at https://webdeva.flightsafety.org/event/networking-awards-dinner-2023/.
