Nov 3, 2019
Foundation’s 72nd annual IASS features experts from around the world.

TAIPEI — Flight Safety Foundation’s 72nd annual International Air Safety Summit, featuring aviation experts from around the world discussing current and emerging safety issues, trends and mitigations, gets under way Monday at the Mandarin Oriental, Taipei.

More than 300 delegates are registered to attend the three-day event, which will include opening session remarks from Dr. Chia-Lung Lin, Taiwan’s minister of Transportation and Communications, Dr. Temel Kotil, president and CEO of Turkish Aerospace, and Chow Kok Wah, assistant honorary secretary of the Association of Aerospace Industries (Singapore).

Other featured speakers during the week include Robert A. Pearce, acting associate administrator of the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate, and Cyriel Kronenburg, vice president of Aviation Services at Aireon.

The agenda for IASS 2019 includes an array of presentations covering a variety of topics, including the status of aviation safety globally, generational differences and safety management strategy, advances in flight deck technology, angle-of-attack sensors, and the influence of automation on a pilot’s skills. The program also features a number of panel discussions, including one on the future of unmanned aircraft systems and another on crisis management.

As in years past, IASS 2019 will include separate flight operations and maintenance breakout sessions on Day 3. The flight operations breakout will focus on pilot training and risk management, while the maintenance sessions will get into topics such as augmented reality in error reduction and change management.
All presentations will be made available to attendees soon after the event.
