ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Jon Beatty, president and CEO of Flight Safety Foundation, issued the following statement after the U.S. Senate voted today to approve the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Reauthorization Act of 2018:
“Continuing to improve the aviation industry’s already impressive safety record requires focus, commitment and cooperation. Bipartisan congressional approval of the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2018 provides FAA with five years of funding stability that will enable the women and men at FAA to focus on the hard work of improving the safety and efficiency of one of the world’s largest and most dynamic aviation systems.
“We at the Foundation look forward to continuing our work with FAA, and government and industry stakeholders around the world, to make aviation safer every day.”
The reauthorization legislation, which was approved last month by the House of Representatives, will take effect after it is signed into law by President Trump. The act not only authorizes funding for FAA programs through fiscal year 2023, but also provides for the continuing modernization of airport infrastructure, streamlines FAA certification and regulatory processes, promotes the safe integration of drones into the National Airspace System, and enhances aviation safety through efforts including stronger voluntary safety reporting programs for pilots and improved tracking of aircraft over oceans and other remote areas.
