The U.S. Department of Transportation says it plans to award $771 million in airport infrastructure grants to 522 airports in all 50 states and five U.S. territories.
Last week’s announcement brings the total amount for infrastructure grants announced in July to $1.6 billion. The funds are part of $3.2 billion in Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grants planned by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
“These critical investments will support upgrading and modernizing airports across the country, which will enhance safety, improve the travel experience and strengthen local economies,” Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao said.
U.S. airports receive AIP funds every year, with the exact amount based on an airport’s activity level and project needs.
