SINGAPORE — The 4th annual Singapore Aviation Safety Seminar (SASS), jointly organized by Flight Safety Foundation and the Singapore Aviation Academy (SAA), a training arm of Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), starts Monday afternoon in Singapore at SAA. The event is intended to provide a platform for aviation professionals to share the latest safety challenges, issues, developments and initiatives to raise the safety standards in the Asia Pacific region.
The theme of SASS 2018 is “Stepping Up Safety: Enabling Growth, Embracing New Technologies.”
This year’s SASS will cover four days — March 26–29 —with each day having its own focus. Following an opening ceremony featuring remarks from Tay Tiang Guan, deputy director-general, CAAS, and Mark Millam, vice president, technology, Flight Safety Foundation, Manjit Singh, deputy regional director of the International Civil Aviation Organization’s Asia and Pacific Office, will deliver the SASS keynote address. Day One also will include a presentation on data analytics and a panel discussion on methods of improving national safety performance through close collaboration between regulators and stakeholders.
Day Two’s flight operations seminar will cover new-generation avionics and systems; risk management of loss of control–in flight (LOC-I) and runway occurrences; and a panel discussion on lessons learned from accident and incident investigation.
Day Three’s engineering seminar will cover maintenance line operations safety assessments, repairs in new materials, and breakthroughs in manufacturing, as well as change management in aircraft maintenance activities.
This year’s SASS features a concurrent day-long engineering workshop on safety management tools, a flight operations workshop on go-around decision making and execution, and a flight operations workshop on common aviation risk issues.
The SASS 2018 main session will conclude Wednesday, and the flight operations workshop will conclude Thursday.
