Robert Sumwalt, the acting chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), has been nominated by President Trump to a full two-year term as chairman. The nomination is pending before the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation and must be approved by the full Senate before it takes effect.
The chairman’s post has been vacant since the expiration of Christopher Hart’s term in mid-March.
Sumwalt has been a member of the NTSB since 2006 and has twice been designated as vice chairman. Before joining the NTSB, he was a pilot for 32 years, including 24 years with Piedmont Airlines and US Airways. He has accumulated 14,000 flight hours….
