AUSTIN, Texas — Flight Safety Foundation on Thursday presented its FSF Business Aviation Meritorious Service Award to Douglas Schwartz, manager of global aviation services at ConocoPhillips, for his outstanding service and contributions to business aviation safety. The award was presented by Foundation President and CEO Jon Beatty on the first day of the Foundation’s 61st annual Business Aviation Safety Summit (BASS 2016) in Austin, Texas. BASS 2016 runs through Friday afternoon.
Schwartz, whose career in aviation spans more than 40 years, spent 25 years at FlightSafety International (FSI), an industry leader in professional aviation training and simulation systems, before moving to AT&T, where he was manager of aviation; TAG USA, where he was vice president of flight operations; and ConocoPhillips. Among his many accomplishments, Schwartz pioneered early development of crew resource management (CRM) training, and introduced the first CRM programs designed for business aviation to thousands of pilots through FSI classrooms and simulators. He also implemented broadly applied instructor teaching strategies designed to standardize flight crew training and enhance flight crew performance.
He has served on, and contributed to, numerous safety-related industry committees over the years, and is a member of the Foundation’s Board of Governors and the National Business Aviation Association’s Board of Directors.
“It is an honor to present Doug Schwartz with this award,” Beatty said. “Doug has worked tirelessly to advance the cause of business aviation safety, and also has been a long-time supporter and friend of the Foundation.”
