Alexandria, VA, October 4, 2012 – The Flight Safety Foundation announced today the release of its new philosophy and guidelines for unreliable airspeed (URA) events. This effort was coordinated by the Foundation in response to an industry request.
“Historical and recent accidents and incidents have highlighted the risks associated with URA events,” stated Jim Burin, FSF Director of Technical Programs and team leader. “This product highlights and addresses challenges to be tackled by aircraft manufacturers, operators and training organization in order to reduce these risks.”
The URA team included representatives from Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Embraer, Airlines for America, ALPA and IATA. The URA Philosophy and Guidelines are available on the FSF website at https://webdeva.flightsafety.org/current-safety-initiatives/unreliable-airspeed.
