Alexandria, VA, July 7, 2010 — The Flight Safety Foundation announced today the re-release of its Approach-and-Landing Accident Reduction (ALAR) Tool Kit with updated data and a new section on runway excursions. The ALAR Tool Kit was introduced ten years ago with more than 40,000 copies distributed around the world.
The updated version of the tool kit has been enhanced with the inclusion of the results of the Foundation’s Runway Safety Initiative efforts to prevent runway excursion accidents. In addition, the tool kit contains updated data and graphic presentations on approach and landing accidents.
The ALAR Tool Kit was originally designed to be a self-contained CD that would provide operators with valuable information to help reduce accidents during the critical final phases of a flight. In support of this tool kit, the Foundation’s Controlled Flight Into Terrain and Approach and Landing Action Group (CAAG) has conducted workshops around the world to teach regulators and operators how to use the information in the tool kit as well as how to teach others how to use it.
