FSF Presents Business Aviation Award to Brian Humphries

May 13, 2010

Tucson, AZ, May 13, 2010 — The Flight Safety Foundation recognized Brian Humphries of the European Business Aviation Association with its annual Business Aviation Meritorious Service Award. This award is presented annually at the Corporate Aviation Safety Seminar (CASS) by FSF in order to recognize an individual or company for exceptional ability to improve the safety of business aviation.

This award acknowledged several of Mr. Humphries’ aviation safety accomplishments including his work at Shell Aircraft, where he led the company in establishing operating standards for fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft operations, an effort that led to an overall reduction in fatal accidents and maintained the annual fatal accident rate at zero for seven years.

Mr. Humphries also was instrumental in the development of the International Standard for Business Aircraft Operations (IS-BAO) during his time as chairman of the International Business Aviation Council. As chairman and later CEO of the European Business Aviation Association, Mr. Humphries continues his strong support of IS-BAO and safety management systems (SMS).

“Business aviation as an industry is safer because of the efforts of Brian, and the Flight Safety Foundation is delighted to be able to recognize his accomplishments with this award,” said William R. Voss, president and CEO of FSF.

The award was presented to Mr. Humphries at a ceremony held during the opening session of the 55th annual CASS, held this week in Tucson, Arizona.
