The U.K. Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) is recommending action to avert new occurrences involving the “uncommanded and unarrested flap extension” on Bombardier Challenger 600 airplanes.
The AAIB’s three safety recommendations — two to manufacturer Bombardier and one to Transport Canada (TC) — were prompted by its investigation of a 2022 event involving the uncommanded flap extension on a Bombardier Challenger 604 after departure from Farnborough Airport, as well as multiple episodes of half-speed flap retractions that occurred over numerous flights, usually without the pilots’ knowledge.
