The de Havilland DHC-6-400 Twin Otter had entered a landing roll at Kerema Airport in Papua New Guinea when the airplane began drifting and the pilot-in-command (PIC) attempted to steer the airplane to the left. The sole of his footwear caught between the brakes and rudder pedals, and he asked the copilot to apply the brakes.
The copilot complied, but the Twin Otter continued rightward and left the runway, then skidded back onto the pavement, across the runway, and onto the grass off the left side, striking the edge of a drainage ditch.
