The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has proposed civil penalties totaling more than $300,000 against three companies that the agency says violated hazardous materials regulations by improperly packaging shipments of lithium-ion batteries on six separate occasions.
In related action, the FAA urged commercial operators to review passenger safety messaging to ensure that passengers are advised on “what lithium batteries are, where they are found, how thermal runaway occurs, and the associated risks.”
